We start off in the calm before the storm, with a moment of possible reconciliation between River and Zoë. Meanwhile, battle plans are drawn up, and a small covert group is tasked with a sting operation to cripple the plunderers’ forces. With things seemingly working out for the Earthers, their true intentions seem to be coming to the fore. Kaylee and Washbot may have some plans that may not include the entire team.
In Issue #31, Greg Pak delivers a pretty fast-paced issue that feels quite a bit like an episode of Firefly: a caper, some heart, with a healthy dose of tension. Art duties are taken over by Jordi Pérez in this issue, and her artwork fits the mold for what I’ve come to expect from this title: great storytelling sensibilities, fluid action, with dynamic pacing that keeps up with the tone of the writing. Francesco Segala’s coloring elevates the artwork, as usual, while Jim Campbell’s lettering translates Pak’s script beautifully.
Overall, a team divided on where they want to be, a tenuous alliance, and a family at odds. Familiar?
