I never thought that Mind the Gap, an amazing, new mystery book from Image Comics, could pull me into its intrigue even more, but Jim McCann has proven me wrong, and I’m so happy that he has. With every issue, he peels back another layer, and with every reveal, the whole story is turned on its head. You think you’ve figured it all out, but then there’s yet another twist. Each panel has new clues, and you never know what might happen when you turn to the next page.
Of course, McCann can’t do it all alone, so he had to get the amazingly talented Rodin Esquejo and Sonia Oback on board to handle the art duties. They render Mind the Gap’s world in amazing detail and deliver excellent pacing and amazingly expressive characters that help build upon the tension in McCann’s scripts. Not to mention that when we see the ethereal purgatory known as the Garden inhabited by the comatose main character, Elle, the artists really get to show off by creating a dreamscape of shattered memories that can easily shift from welcoming to terrifying.
Mind the Gap is an incredible character drama with an ever-unfolding mystery and should definitely be on your pull list. Make sure to pick it up from the start, so you can get the full experience, as this is one book that you don’t want to miss out on.
