In light of the Thanksgiving holiday, the owners of Cool Cats Comics and Cards are teaming up with CAPS, the Cartoon Art Professional Society, to support Stan Sakai, the creator of Usagi Yojimbo. Unfortunately, Sakai's wife Sharon has been battling a debilitating illness which requires 24-hour hospital care, resulting in mounting hospital bills that cannot be afforded by Sakai's income as an independent creator. The folks at Cool Cats have put together a press release regarding their plan to support CAPS and Stan Sakai:
It's almost Thanksgiving, and we here at Cool Cats Comics and Cards have a lot to be thankful for. In the spirit of giving thanks, we have decided that this year's Black Friday sale will be used to benefit a creator that many of us know and love - Stan Sakai. The creator of Usagi Yojimbo needs our help, and, as such, we make the following offer for our Black Friday sale: Non-subscribers will receive 15% off of all
purchases. Subscribers will receive 20% off of all purchases.
If, however, you donate at least $1 to Stan Sakai's cause, you will receive an additional 5% off of your purchase (20% for non-subscribers, 25% for subscribers). Thank you again for being such a great group of people!
ABOUT CAPS:
The Comic Art Professional Society (CAPS) was founded on June 9, 1977 through the efforts of cartoonists Sergio Aragonès and Don Rico, and writer Mark Evanier. The purpose of the organization, to quote from their original invitation, is ". . . a non-profit social-type group that will meet every month. A great many of us toil in near isolation, utterly unaware of what (and who) is happening in our field. The primary goal of CAPS is to change that."
If you have a volunteer opportunity or an important cause that could use the assistance of a few geeks, please email the details to barbra (at) fanboycomics.net.
