Written by Erica J. Heflin (Mother and Son, Of Wolf and Woman) and featuring art by Amanda Rachels (ClownTown, The Book), Flesh of White is a four-issue series that tells the story of an infant in Tanzania who was born with albinism. While albinism brings with it a host of medical concerns, witch doctors in Tanzania view those with albinism (referred to as "Ghosts") as magical. When the infant is chosen as a witch doctor's next victim, his parents must struggle to keep their child alive.
While Flesh of White is a supernatural horror story that highlights the bond between parent and child, it also brings to light the real-life events and practices that are still taking place in areas of Tanzania and Kenya. Children and adults with albinism are often mutilated and murdered, so that they may be used in spells by those who practice witchcraft. By sharing this story with readers, the comic series' creators hope to bring greater awareness to this problem with the hopes that it ends such violence.
