From time to time, Fanboy Comics will promote different projects that it does not directly produce or publish. (Although, we wish that we did!) As a sign of our support and approval, you can find these selections under the FBC Approved section of our website. Please understand that, no matter how badly we would love to take credit, these works have been independently created and produced by the talented people attached to them. And, while we're on the subject . . .
For the readers among you who just want to drink and the drinkers among you who just want to read, we present for your drunken literary enjoyment: Books & S--t, an unscripted audio podcast that merges a love of literature with the familiar tone that seems to be lacking in conventional bookological discourse.
The Staff of Fanboy Comics would like to wish you and yours a very happy International Read Comics in Public Day!
This special day is as simple as it sounds . . . go and read comics in public! Read Comics in Public Day was created by Brian Heater and Sarah Morean of The Daily Cross Hatch in 2010 in an attempt to encourage fans to show their geek pride for all to see. Over the years, comics and graphic novels have grown in popularity and social acceptance, but we as geeks should always to do our part to encourage that growth.
Any independent creator will tell you that breaking into the entertainment business is no easy task. Greater still is the challenge of joining the niche comic book industry, as finding talented creators with which to collaborate on a small, or non-existent, budget is not exactly an enticing selling point. Well, indie creators in the Los Angeles area are in luck! On Saturday, September 8th, at 7:30 p.m., SoCal Creators Unite will host an Independent Comic Book Writer and Artist Meeting to provide indie creators with an opportunity to network with like-minded individuals, with the hopes of establishing future collaborations.
Any history geeks reading this article will be well aware that today, August 7th, marks the birthday of Elizabeth Bathory, the noblewoman and horrific serial killer who terrorized Eastern Europe in the 16th and 17th centuries. The frightful terror, who was believed to bathe in virgin blood to maintain her youth and beauty, will be the villainess in Weirdsmobile Productions' upcoming feature film, Chastity Bites. In order to celebrate their villainess' birth, Weirdsmobile is debuting a music video for TL Forsberg’s single, “Liquid Love.” The video, in which Forsberg portrays a Bathory-esque character, can be found on the production company's YouTube Channel.
FANBOY COMICS ANNOUNCES THE ARCS
LOS ANGELES, CA – August 6, 2012 – Fanboy Comics (FBC) is proud to announce the development of The Arcs, a new digital comic written by Michael D. Poisson to be released in late 2012. The Arcs will feature art by Matt Jacobs (The Boys, Prototype) and lettering by Oceano Ransford (The Molting).
"Poisson brings us an epic story concerning the slow descent of God's abandoned archangels against the armies of Hell,” says FBC President Bryant Dillon. “His take on the biblically-inspired material is fresh, original, and unforgiving on his characters. Elevated even further by Jacobs' gritty and grandiose art, readers are sure to be both moved and exhilarated by the tragic battle of the final angels in Heaven."
A free digital preview of The Arcs will be available through the Fanboy Comics website in advance of the comic book’s full release.
Founded in early 2010 by self-professed “geeks” Bryant and Barbra Dillon and Sam Rhodes, Fanboy Comics seeks to provide an outlet for up-and-coming artists and writers with a desire to create new works and media. By facilitating in-house collaborations and providing support and empowerment, FBC hopes to enable the production of professional and marketable creator-owned works.
Fanboy Comics’ first graphic novel, Something Animal, is available online at www.fanboycomics.net, as well as through iTunes, Barnes & Noble, and the digital distributor Graphicly. The publisher’s second graphic novel, Identity Thief, will be released in September 2012.
