August 4, 2011

Today is August 4th, and you know what that means, kiddies. Only 25 more days until nuclear holocaust and the machine revolution!

As any well-educated fanboy knows, Skynet is the artificially intelligent computer system that serves as a major villain in the Terminator franchise. According to James Cameron's Terminator lore, Skynet was originally installed into the U.S. military mainframe to control the national arsenal on August 4, 1997.  (Don't worry, Sarah Connor Chronicles fans.  We will celebrate your Activation Day in April.)  It was only 25 days later, on August 29th, that Skynet became self-aware and decided to exterminate the human race.

The following is an interview with Kristopher White, creator and writer of the upcoming graphic novel, The 36.  The story is based on the Kabbalistic belief that there are 36 people in the world upon whom it is saved by their simple existence.  In times of need, these people emerge from anonymity and save us, then fade back into their lives.

Below, White talks to Fanboy Comics Managing Editor Barbra Dillon about the religious basis for The 36, his personal influences from the comic book genre, and how Kickstarter.com can launch the dreams of independent creators.

This interview was conducted on Sunday, July 31st, 2011.

For those of you who have not heard, or tried, Minecraft is crack. Beautiful, delicious crack. The basic premise of the game is that you are a guy who can build stuff in a hostile world. That’s it. The game is an unfinished product and is constantly being updated. This is both a good and bad thing. The bad news is pretty obvious. The game is not as good as it should be yet. There are fairly steady improvements being made, but this is one of the great bits. The game is constantly changing as you play it. There is something incredibly fascinating about watching the evolution of a game as it is happening. The other great thing about the game being a work-in-progress is that it is cheaper. When Minecraft is finished, it will cost €20, or about $28.75. Right now, while the game is in Beta, you can buy a copy of the game, and all updates, for €15, or $21.54.

The following is an interview with Michael Anthony Steele and Scott McFadden, co-creators of the visionary new independent comic book app, Clown Commandos.  The story follows a brigade of clowns from an alternate universe where clowns evolved into an elite fighting force that was anything but a joke.  Having made their way into the present day, this humorous, yet deadly, troupe does its best to fight crime while trying to find their way home.  Not only is the premise of the comic exciting, but so is the fact that it was built specifically for iDevices (the iPhone, iPad, and iPodTouch).

Below, Steele and McFadden talk to Fanboy Comics Managing Editor Barbra Dillon about the concept behind Clown Commandos, its broad audience appeal, and what fans can expect from the inventive digital app.

This interview was conducted on Friday, July 22nd, 2011.
